Buying diamond bracelets and engagement rings is a task that requires research beforehand. Since the average engagement ring costs 5,200 dollars, and the industry as a whole will have 9.2 billion dollars in revenue in 2013, it is important to know exactly what you are paying for. Even though the first recorded use of a diamond engagement ring involved a ring that hand thin, flat pieces of diamonds in an M shape, engagement rings have come a long way since then. It is important, when purchasing diamond bracelets or rings, to understand what the four Cs are in diamond selection.

1. Cut. The cut of the diamond is the most important factor in determining the beauty of it. When the diamond is cut to reflect light from multiple directions, it will make it sparkle more. The diamond will be more brilliant with a better cut.

2. Color. Most people, when searching for diamonds, will search for diamonds that are colorless. A colorless diamond will emit a high level of brilliance because no color imperfections will hinder its appearance. A diamond with a slight yellow hue, however, may be noticeable to the naked eye.

3. Clarity. Some diamonds have inclusions, which are small imperfections that are sometimes visible. A flawless diamond will have no inclusions, although this is very rare. Inclusions are sometimes tiny enough to remain invisible to the naked eye, though, and can only be seen when magnified. A heavily marred diamond, however, will likely be noticeable to the wearer.

4. Carat. Many people, when buying diamonds, will automatically look for a higher carat simply because a higher carat means the diamond is bigger. Bigger is not always better, though. While some people want a bigger diamond, you must also consider the other three Cs before determining if that large diamond is what you want.

Whether you are researching diamond bracelets or diamond rings, it is important to know what you are looking for in a diamond. The four Cs are the standard criteria to use when searching for diamonds, as they are graded and priced based on those factors. Doing your homework on diamond jewelery can ensure that you end up choosing exactly what you are looking for.
